PAMJ Clinical Medicine privacy policy

What personal information does the PAMJ - Clinical Medicine ask users to supply, and why?

Registration to our website is entirely optional and voluntary. We do not require users to provide personal information in order to browse or to view articles. We do not require any personal information to be submitted from users. Nor do these functions require the user's browser to be set to accept cookies.

To ensure scientific integrity and to protect confidentiality, we require users to provide information such as their name and email address to access the manuscript submission system. Information provided by users during registration will also be used in order to provide highly customized and personalized facilities.

In accordance with international guidelines, registrants may decline to provide the information requested. They should be advised, however, that we won't be able to access reserved space for which information necessary for security and identification purposes must be provided.

What further information does the PAMJ - CM track and why?

In order to offer the best possible service to users, we track the patterns of usage of pages on the site. This enables us to identify the most popular articles and services and to inform users about how often their articles are accessed. Where users have provided details of their research areas of interest, this information will help us to maintain useful services offering the most relevant information for scientists based on their interests.

What is the PAMJ - CM's policy on sharing e-mail addresses with third parties?

User information will only be shared with third parties with the explicit consent of the user. If the user has explicitly opted to receive special offer and product information e-mails from our partners, then we may from time to time e-mail the user on behalf of these partner companies. However, we will never give user's details to third parties without user's explicit consent.

What is the PAMJ - CM's policy on sending electronic mail to its registered members?

We may contact our members from time to time to draw the member's attention to information that may be of interest. Members may opt out from receiving such e-mail when registering as a member, or at any time thereafter by responding to such an e-mail or contacting customer services.

What is the PAMJ - CM's policy on using demographic information about users for online advertising purposes?

Our journal offers free access to research articles; so support from advertisers is important to keep this business model running. Statistical demographic information (gender, title, country, age) provided by our members may be supplied to advertisers. We may target online advertising to specific users on the basis of these demographic information, or on the basis of their past behavior on the site. However, information about an individual user will never be passed on to an advertiser without the users' express consent.

How does this privacy policy relate to authors of research articles published in the PAMJ - CM?

Publishing a scientific manuscript is inherently a public (as opposed to anonymous) process. The name and e-mail address of the corresponding author of research articles will be available to registered users of the PAMJ - CM. These details are made available purely to facilitate scientific communication. Collecting these e-mail addresses for commercial use is not permitted. We will never send unsolicited e-mail to authors, unless it directly concerns the paper they have published on the PAMJ - CM. At any time, authors may decide not to accept these emails.
